The Definitive AI IDE Has Officially Launched
In March 2026, Google officially released Antigravity, its AI-powered integrated development environment. Approximately four months after its November 2025 preview announcement, the product has been refined with feedback from developers worldwide into a highly polished platform.
Deep Integration with Gemini 3
Antigravity's standout feature is its deep integration with Google's latest AI model, Gemini 3. This goes far beyond traditional code completion tools:
- Expanded context window: Suggestions that understand your entire project
- Multimodal input: Generate code from screenshots and design files
- Natural language refactoring: Instructions like "convert this class to a singleton" trigger automatic transformations
Editor View Evolution
The official release brings a major upgrade to Editor View. Beyond improved tab completions, the Inline Commands feature lets you type natural language prompts directly in the editor to generate, modify, or explain code.
The Smart Diff feature is particularly noteworthy. It displays AI-proposed changes as diffs, allowing you to bulk-accept, individually accept, or reject changes — preventing unintended modifications while maintaining efficiency.
Manager Surface — Orchestrating Multiple Agents
The other headline feature, Manager Surface, provides an interface for managing multiple AI agents simultaneously. For example, you can assign one agent to fix frontend issues, another to write backend API tests, and yet another to update documentation — all at the same time.
Each agent's progress is monitored in real-time, with the ability to course-correct as needed.
Roadmap Ahead
Google has previewed the following upcoming updates:
- Q2 2026: Official support for custom MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers
- Q3 2026: Enhanced team collaboration features
- Q4 2026: Enterprise on-premises deployment options
